This independent workbook, written by Oak Tree Reading, is designed to enhance your reading experience of the book "Deep Work" by Cal Newport. Let's begin with a quick self-assessment:
Do you often find yourself getting distracted while reading? Do you find yourself rushing through books despite your best intentions? Do you sometimes read paragraphs over and over, but still don't know what they said? Do you struggle to remember what was in a book soon after you finish it? Do you wish there was a way you could get more value from the books you read? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you are not alone.
In our busy lives, we are constantly tempted to forfeit the quality of what we do, including the quality of our reading habits. We are lured away from our goals by distractions and other commitments. In the long run, this strategy hurts us more than it helps. It comes down to this: If you don't remember what you learned while reading, what was the point of reading it in the first place?
The solution to this problem is this workbook. Why should you use this workbook while you read? You will get more value from the books you read, you will be able to facilitate group discussions and team learning, you will easily implement the knowledge and wisdom shared by authors, you will enjoy the positive impact books can have on your life, you will enjoy reading more than ever before, and you will always have your completed workbook as a quick refresher.
Here's what is included in your workbook: pre-reading questions, reading comprehension questions, space to write your own summary for each section, vocabulary words (and space to add your own), key terms to define, chapter reflection questions, final reflection questions, and a condensed list of all questions, vocabulary, and key terms for reference. Additionally, there are reflection pages for writing extra notes and ideas.
It's important to note that this workbook is not intended to replace the author's original content. It is designed to have you actively engage with what you are learning as you read. I first started making these workbooks for myself because I was struggling to remember what I had read. Authors spend a lot of time gathering and sharing their insights because they believe what they are sharing is valuable to others. I felt like I wasn't doing them justice, and I knew I was not alone. I decided to start sharing these workbooks with others, not to take away from what the author has done, but to allow more people to enjoy and learn from it.
Please note that the eBook and paperback formats of this workbook are somewhat different. In the eBook format, space for writing is not needed and therefore has been omitted. Some blanks (i.e. "____") have been left in to indicate where something should be written. The paperback version includes the full space for writing answers.
I encourage you to try out this workbook while you read. I truly believe it will change the way you read for the better!
